Two years ago when I was looking for mine...I found several similar to those (but taken apart) that they wanted $2000 for. Who knew...iron oxide is worth as much as gold and silver.

I understand with the current price of scrap metal wanting more than $50 for them but the starting bid for these two rust piles is $1500! I would guestimate the going scrap price might be $200, tops. If the engines actually run, maybe they're worth $500 each, at most.
I wouldn't buy the pair of those old piles of misery today for 50 bucks.

I remember when you could buy nice originals for $100.00 each in the early 1960's.

I also remember when gas a 15 cents a gallon for regular, 18 cents for Chevron Custom Supreme 105 octane.

It's the old old story. When he parked these piles, they were prolly pretty decent...when ppl asked about them, he'd say..."Oh, I'm going to restore them some day."

Uh huh...

That day has come..and gone..these two trucks are gone, too.

Sad.

When I was in High School I worked at Mobil. Regular was .24 and Premium was .26

We didn't get into gas wars but the independants did. It would go down to .13.

I remember a lady in a late 60s Grand Prix complaining to my Boss because I stuffed more than $5.00 of premium in her tank. She was sure I was ripping her off.

I got my '53 as a totally functional, daily driver vehicle in '73 for $250. It was just considered a used truck back then. The seller preferred I trade him shotguns or rifles for it, but I didn't have any at the time.

I remember pumping gas at 17.9 and 19.9 for ethyl, summer of '71. Plus driving the station's '51 FORD pickup. Rust bucket back then, your feet rode on the frame. Not sure why it was so rusted after only 20 years in the desert, but it was.

won't be long before it's going to be 17.99 and 19.99!!

There was an age thread awhile back.

Dono was born in 1935, he's the oldest...then there was a fellow born in 1936, another in 1939. Another born in 1943, two in 1944, one in June, and....one in September.

1951...heck, that's not old.

Think gas prices had dropped some when I got my license in 1986 and unleaded was somewhere around .95/gallon. Remember there use to be a choice between leaded and unleaded? Would put 5 bucks in the old gas guzzler chevelle, and have enough to run from the boondocks into town, cruise around with friends and get back home. Looked at many cheap 70's cars for my first car, deciding to get the chevelle for $650. Around age 18 I stopped and looked at a 1967 camaro conver, bright red, nice paint, nice shape at a lot in town priced at 3 grand. Boy what it would go for today, not to mention what dads mach 1 he bought new and sold soon after. I was born in 70, and guess the mach wasn't the most friendly car for loading a baby and baby seat in the back, at least he blames me for selling it.
Do people even put snow tires or tire chains on in the winter anymore?

On the tractor to push snow...

I think the Grapevine in California still requires chains at certain times....

I never have. Not cold enough down here to need them.
