Remember when.....
Remember when you could buy trucks like this for $50, or better yet, the owners give them to you just to clear their property?
http://i13.ebayimg.com/08/i/000/cf/de/cbb5_12.JPG "The owner telss me that they both are running trucks and are in pretty good condition..." Yeah, right! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting I understand with the current price of scrap metal wanting more than $50 for them but the starting bid for these two rust piles is $1500! I would guestimate the going scrap price might be $200, tops. If the engines actually run, maybe they're worth $500 each, at most. |
Maybe there's a '98 F-150 parked behind it that you can't see?!

I personally think all the people with rusted heaps, not just this guy, are getting iron-oxide mixed up with gold.
|
Those are some sad old heaps of iron. It's a pity that whoever owns them let them sit for so long before trying to find someone to love them.
From the looks of it, it might be too late. |
Remember whan gas was $0.99?
|
:-winkreamer; I remember when gas was 23 cents a gal. And we had gas wars and it got down 13 cents. And I'm not telling my age when I say that.:-missingt

y'know, I read this and think back to Prof. Okraku's Micro Econ 1001. supply and demand. anything is only worth as much as ONE is willing to pay. buy low, sell high?
all things are relative. when you were getting the goods for cheap/free, how old was it? how many were there? who wanted it? take-away vehicles are still out there. I had opportunity for a freebie vw bus not too long ago. put it off too long and missed out - someone else got the freebie. there are tons of 25 year old vehicles for free these days. I got a $50 56 F-100 cab and parts just a few short years ago. They're still out there. just harder to come by. btw, I've got a free '91 Crown Vic shell w/ front /rear rolling stock and partial interior. minor rust in trunk well. Lots of good parts for ???? I got it in trade for a set of wheels/tires for the motor/tranny/ecm/harness, among a few other things. I repeat, FREE. come and get it. supply and demand. JML |
last summer I looked at a pair of them for $50 total. Granted they didn't have engines and trannies, but still $50 was $50. They looked a little worse than those two, but not by much. I passed on them, because at the time I was looking for good running boards, and a better bed than the one I've got. No such luck. But, this weekend I'm picking up a '48 with a flattie V8, trans, etc...and title!! Which is what I need the most. It's $500, but the way I look at it, the engine is worth $500, and the rest is free. I'm hoping the frame is better than mine, so I can use that one. I'll add pics to my gallery next week.

I got lucky when I got my free 49 cab last week. I'd been looking for over a year. Thanks to vintage56 Who told me about it. Cheapest one I'd found was in Tx. $150. Plus another $100 in gas plus time. So I would say $500 is a very good deal. It would be $1500 around here.

Dang. I bought a 51 F1 for $85 when I was 14 (1987). Then my dad found a running 8BA flatty for $100. The truck didn't look much better than those. I wish I had that one back.
|
Don't we ALL wish we had what we use to HAVE.:-X15
|
I see a couple $100 trucks and a lot of work parting out what's salvagable.
Then again, that could be just good ol desert sunburn on those bodies and be only skin deep with no cancer spots. seen those before. JML |
Yup, I think the Alchemist back in the medieval days were barking up the wrong tree trying to make gold out of lead. Its very clear to me that you make gold out of iron oxide (at least thats the trend I've seen at the local swap meets)

yeah i wish i had some of the ol' stuff back , i could make a small fortune at barret jackson , which by the way i have and still do blame for the stupid mentality of the people with the old iron sitting around and going to hades . first car was a 55 ford fairlane two door , the second was a 63 pontiac gran prix with a 389 , tri power , and 4 speed . got it from my mothers cousin he was using it as a fishing car !!!!! man i'd like to have it back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-banghead wonder what it'd get at auction .........................

:-hijacked Speaking of Barrett Jackson, my coworker's good friend has a '69 Jaguar in their "on the block". Also, another local (Tom Maruska) has a '63 Thunderbird Italien concept car. Unfortunaely I don't have Speed channel.
