I measured my truck from the ground to the center of the fender of the frame, the front was 36.75" and the rear was just short of 40". My 3" leveling kit came in today and want to know how the measure it to see how many inches it really is. But how? Where do you measure from? I don't have much free time to be screwing around with putting a leveling kit on, then taking it off because it looks stupid. Any ifo is greatly appreciated. Thanks Brent
I usually measure mine from the bottom of the tire (or at the top of the tire in the middle ) straight up to the bottom of the fender. A 3" lift should put you at a perfectly level stance or just slightly nose high. Usually they give a little less lift than they are advertised for. A three inch would probably give ya about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 of actual lift.
Thanks for the info, I guess I will go ahead and put it on and see how it looks, if it's a little high, will it hurt anything? And what type of options do I have to level out the back end?
What brand kit did you get? Most of them now only take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to install them. It will not hurt nothing it it being nose high. It is actually a look some people want (prerunner look). To level out the rear you got a couple options.
You can purchase some larger blocks for the rear end (That is what I did) Only problem with this is some people think it creates axle warp. I have never had a problem with my 3" block though(anything bigger and it can happen). It will also keep the factory ride and is a good price.
You can buy and add-a-leaf. This will give you more towing and payload capacity and works well but sometimes will create a slightly stiffer ride. These run a tad bit more then the blocks.
Third you can buy some airbags. They are adjustable and give you more towing and payload capacity and still give a good if not better ride. The only problem is they are much more expensive at about $300 just for the basic setup.
The company is call hellbentsteel found them on ebay. How much are the block for the rear and where can you buy them? Do you recommend a certain brand. I appreciate you helping me out.
I really like Autosprings on eBay. That is where I got my leveling kit and replacement blocks. They have real high quality stuff and IMO blocks or add-a-leafs aren't something you want to skimp on.
This is the blocks. You want the 3" replacement ones if you got a 4X4. HERE
These are the add-a-leafs also if you wanted to look into them. HERE
Another quick question, I know that I need bigger tires after the lift. I am keeping the factory 17" rims for now until I can afford new rims, (after the holiday crunch), but I need bigger tires for now, what size do you recommend for the factory rims that will give it the off road look.
Well you don't NEED bigger tires unless that is what you want. Yes it makes it look better but it is not going to hurt the vehicle with the tires on it now unless you want bigger ones right now. On this truck with a leveling kit and stock wheels you can go up to a 35x12.50(with minor rubbing if any). When I get some new tires I will be looking at a tire around the size of a 33x12.50 on my stock 18" wheels. I think the 33" with a good aggressive looking tire makes the truck look really good. I'm not sure what size your factory tires are but you can look in my gallery at the stock FX4 tires which are a 275/65/R18 and they give the truck a nice stance but I still like a bigger tire.
By looking at your photos, my rims look the same as the ones you had on your truck before you did everything to it. They are 17". I think the 33/12.5/17 will work, Been checking around on the internet. What do you think?
