"Euro" Headlights

Im looking at getting new headlights because mine arnt very bright and the lenses are old and fadded looking. So I was looking at "Euro" headlights and they look pretty nice and I found these on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/78-86...spagenameZWDVW

Are these good lights? How hard is it to get replacement bulbs?

I have a pair on my 81 F150. Plan on buying new bulbs in the 1st few weeks. The ones they sell with the headlights are junk. The headlights themselves look great and was easy to put in. Replacing the bulbs should be easy, pull and plug I beleive. I have not done mine yet because it's not my daily driver.

My boss has them on his suburban, they look and work real good. He got them through a local import store, they are Hella's that he has. I think he paid 50 for the pair with bulbs.

The Hellas your boss has are probably real e-code lights, not just fancy looking reflectors that are marginally better than the stock sealed beams.
I run Bosch reflectors, as that's what's readily available to me. My local parts store stocks the H4 bulbs in many different wattages as they are a fairly common bulb. I run standard 55/60W bulbs in my diesel, and it's a pretty big improvement over sealed beams, but, my 460 truck has relays and 10 guage wiring, with 60/100W bulbs, and it's a HUGE improvement over stock.

Those look almost identical to the ones APC makes, they even have the little blue light bulb in the top. When I had the 85 front end on my truck still, I was running something similar made by PILOT. I got them at my local auto parts store for about $40 and threw some silverstars in them. They were certainly better than stock, but I felt they could have been a little better.
Here's a pic of the ones I had.

Those look just like what I have.

Sycostang, you still got that front end laying around?

There's a lot of misinformation about "HID" lamps getting around these days. Those in the ebay link look just like H4 Halogens with blue filtered covers. (Last 1/2 as long as regular halogen's and usually cost twice as much).

Here's a link to a true HID discharge lamp and conversion kit. You be the judge as to what you're getting from ebay. I haven't seen any discharge lamps that need a blue cover on the bulbs to give off a bluish light.

I just got a pair of PIAA DOT/SAE compliant replacement lights off Amazon for $27 including shipping. I had already converted the truck to a relay headlight setup, and I'm running the new Silverstar Ultras....it's pretty much like looking at the sun and it's 50 state legal...total cost including the relay setup was about $90.

It is true. The ebay stuff is junk.

Unless it includes a pair of bulbs AND ballasts, it is not a true HID and will actually decrease light output.

Dabears2k.com only sells real HID kits. No fake junk.

Whoever made those HID lamps legal I would like to kick in the butt. Being a driver in the other lane, they are very obnoxious and blinding. But it's all about them, not the driver in the other lane.

A lot of that problem comes from people simply not knowing how, or just not bothering to aim their headlights. There's no excuse either way.

Im going to try and get a job there but I have to get a tag ($255)

The lights I had required a 9004 type bulb, but a 9007 fit the same way and was available in more configurations. At the time, only the basic sylvania lights were available in 9004. I could get the silverstars in a 9007 though.

I wanted a High Intensity Discharge kit for my 1984 FORD F150 which is a very cool light and better visibility especially during night driving. I opted to go with the single beam HID kit too and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty so I got it here Sealed Beam Headlight Kits , or you can try one of the vendors. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great system, and very easy to install.
