i will be getting a 2wd reg cab 250 soon, i want to know what size and what kind of street tire/rim will be best for traction! this truck will be pushing over 600 by the time its said and done, am i SOL for traction on the street or are there some awesome street tires that i need to know about... Thanks
Are you are looking for strictly a dry traction street tire capable of planing 600 RWHP? Do you plan on towing or hauling a load?
If not, drop down to a Load Range D or even an LT tire, get the widest highway tire you can fit on the rim. Brand and style won't matter much, since you'll be smoking them on a regular basis anyway.
I have in the past seen guys get Dually fenders, then use Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R tires on wide rims. You can get those as wide as 33X22.00R20, which is one big a$$ tire! I wouldn't want to drive it in the rain, though.
Link the rear and run some Toyo Proxes ST or Kumho has a similar tire.
They grip pretty well.
Beyond them...street slicks (maybe have the rear shortened if you want real wide)
If I had a 2wd with some hp I'd lower the truck, link the rear and run some nice 22s with either the Toyos or Kumhos. Of course I'd run something like a Trutrac or Detroit in the rear end....

Back in 1990 a local GMC dealership had a new GMC half ton reg cab shortbed 2wd, solid maroon with dually fenders and the Mickey Thompsons on and was a sweet looking truck. If you done that, you would have a unique looking truck!
Guess I'm confused. I only have 360 hp and I can't keep the butt on the ground as it is.... At 600 hp you'll be airborne if you hit a pebble in the road............
You might want to build some custom traction/ladder bars. And don't even think about taking it off the pavement cause you'll be SOL even on wet grass. LOL
i have some 305/50/R20 Toyo Proxes ST on my truck. I have a superchips tuner and a 5" cat back exhaust with no cat and i smoke these tires, so you will need something wider for 600hp. They don't let me spin to long but i get them going and probably only at 400 at the wheels, if that
Check the gallery for pics
the truck already has close to 600 on fuel and 730 on 2 stage nitrous, i will be makinging it a swb instead of lwb, 4 link susp, has detroit locker, slicks and street tires are 11 in wide, just will need more grip, anything past half thottle breaksem loose even at 50 mph!
