I own a 2000 f250 with a v10 and this spring I'm thinking of moving up to a 350 with a crew cab short box 4 x 4 with a v10. I've been looking around and they are a little bit hard to find . Is there a reason why 90% of the f350 are diesel?
Well it use to be because they got better miles per gallon.
Now that they are getting horrible MPG, it's just because they are miss informed.
Don't get me wrong, some people may need the little bit of extra power a diesel offers. Most of the poeple I know with diesels, don't need that power to tow their 2,000 lbs. bass boat.
You will probably have to do a factory order like I did. Many of the guys on this forum did as well. That was 3 years go and so far it is the best Ford truck I have owned and I have bought 8 new Fords over the last 32 years. Last 3 were PSDs. I like my V10 better.
One bit of advice, most dealers won't stock V10s but there is a lot of curious people at some dealers that want to drive one. Get it in writing that the most miles you will accept is whatever a maintenance check over will take, usually 10 or 15 miles. My truck showed up flawless but the dealer had put 40 miles on my truck because it was the first 3 valve they had ever seen. My salesman was embarassed and I used the situation as a lever to get reimbursed for summer tires that came on my FX4 order that was supposed to have A/T tires. If the truck would not have been so perfect, they would have made me another one. Also on diesel orders I only had to put 1000 down to order a truck. My dealer was afraid of the V10 so they wanted 2000 down.
It is really bizarre how Ford Salespeople talk people out of V10s.

Welcome schupbach,
Keep searching, there are a few out there. If you are looking for a new one, it may be easier to just order one. If you are looking for a used one, be ready to travel a bit to get one. It took me a good few months to find the V10 I wanted. I finally found a nice clean '05 in the same config as you - an F350 4x4 crewcab shortbox. Bought it 3 states away, had to fly out to get it and made the 900 mile trip to bring her home. It was worth it - I agree with Wrenchtraveller, best Ford truck I've owned.
I don't know how far you are from SW Kansas, but my dealer has one on the lot, as of last Friday. It is an FX4, and is reeeeeaaaaaly nice. Sticker says 43K, but they are often willing to deal. It's at Foss Ford in Liberal, KS. It may only have 4:10s though. Might be worth a phone call.
What options do you recomend for pulling a 14000 lb trailer
The V10 with the TorqueShift transmission is an awesome towing machine. Be sure to get the Tow Command trailer bracke controller. I would think you'd want the 4.30 gears as well. Hang in there - I'm sure others will chime in soon.
