Howdy folks....Killer site. Hope to glean alot to use with my truck.
I'm not a motor head but I am capable. Want to attempt my own repair as my name is not Rockafeller. '02 350 crew cab single wheel 7.3L powerstroke.
12 degrees where I'm at with a bit of snow. Went to start truck to warm before going out. Started fine. Came back and found puddle of fuel underneath. located leak on top of engine where fuel line goes into back of carb like unit. I understand there is a water separator there. I suspect it may have cracked. It happened late so it was dark and I couldn't get in behind to see well enough. Plan to attack this morning and was looking for exploded views to reference. Unable to find any real info to help me out.
So, here I am. Any help from the collective brain trust would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I'm into it. Had to take a break. Doing this in the cold w/ no garage is interesting to say the least. I've also learned that you need to be a 6'8" tall preying mantis to get in there. Anyway, I have a question about the drain positioning itself. I noticed there are two openings with each having a ball like valve and each valve with it's own opening. Should the two openings be aligned when it goes back in place and in what direction should the handle be facing for said alignment?
Well, it's all apart, cleaned up and I'm ready to put it back together. I saved the separator as it was intact and unscathed. All I need to do is replace the O rings. Let's see...I live in a rural town at least 5 miles from the auto stores and the dealer...let's make a few calls so as not to have to drive all over. So, NO one has a #202 O ring. What's funny is that for all some of these fellas knew it could have been somebody's address. The dealer only carries the kit for which he wants $55+ for. Online order will take 2 days and cost about the same as the dealer with shipping. I Need the truck!!
Call my buddy who works at the compressor factory...

Thanks for the tip Empiretc...
not a problem! glad to hear she is getting taken care of!
make sure to order an extra set for later. it's just another thing to add to the list of spares.
Just out of curiosity, wanted to know how many miles folks had on their trucks when they started leaking fuel. My uncle has a '00 Excursion and a '99 F350. The Excursion has about 202K miles and just started leaking fuel recently. the F350 has 176K but has not leaked any fuel as of yet.
Worked until after dark on that bad boy. problem I ran into is that the O rings would not work. I couldn't get a seal. Now I don't know if there is a difference in the separetor design from 99-02 but the original rings have a convex side to them and are fatter, slightly more than 1/8th thick. The ID doesn't seem to be quite 1/4 in. I realize it's like comparing apples and oranges in that in truth these things are measured metrically. Anyway, I don't have time to jerk around with it so it's off to the dealer first thing to "Take one for the team". (No disrespect to the Techs as they don't set the parts prices) I will however go on line and get a couple spares JIC. I'm gonna see if there is a 3 yo neighbor kid to give me a 'Hand" too..
badblueoval4life...Didn't mean to leave you from the thank you list..
