I just bought a '62 Galaxie with a perfect body that I am restoring however the 312 thats in it is locked up and I would like to know if you guys have any easy ways of getting it unlocked.
Are you sure this is a 312? Likely a 292 unless the engine has been swapped out. But you can try putting some ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and then pressurizing the cylinders individually with air pressure and then let it soak for awhile to see if this will get the engine to break loose and roll over.
I would also recommend the ATF trick- Put some ATF on the cylinders, let the engine sit about a week. After that, if it is a standard, put it in 3rd gear and gently rock it back and forth. I broke one loose that way without hurting it. Hope it works for you!
You can also pull the rocker covers, as you will be replacing the gaskets anyway, and removing or at least loosening the rocker arm shafts (slowly and equally, not one at a time). That will take the valvetrain out of the equation to figure if it is stuck pistons, a torn up crankshaft or valves...

Pour some Mystery Oil in there. Works every time. I've used it on everything, it's awesome stuff.
And once you do eventually get it running, pour a quart in with the crankcase oil, it'll clean out all the sludge and crap. And put a few drops in with your gas. Basically, go crazy. This stuff pretty much saved my 292 and now it runs awesome!
Matt2491 I know what you mean!! I had a 56 with a 272 and was stuck and marvel mystery oil pulled thru and she was purrin not long after.
Hope my new 272 project works the same. It is on engine stand and locked up. I poured the MMO in 3 weeks ago and hope it will unlock.......Bill
