So sometime in the last 2 weeks, some scumbag stuck a screwdriver into my pass door ('05) and really did a job on it. Dont think they got in as nothing was missing. Today I stopped at the Ford dealer and got a new one. Only $120 for a new cylinder and cut to match my key! He says I only have to pull the 2 black rubber plugs out of the side of the door and pull the door handle to get to it. (2 screws). Could it be this simple where I dont have to pull the door panel?
I think in order to be able to get the outside door handle off the door panel must be removed. I think that is how those with the LT handles had to swap them out.
you will definately need to remove the door panel.... then look inside, and you will find 2 10mm nuts that need to be removed. so, you will only have 3 total fasteners on the door handle, and of course you will have to door panel too.
then when you pull the opener out of the door, you will need to unhook 2 linkage rods... one for the lock, and one for the opener latch. you will have to unhook the door lock one first, and then the whole handle will rotate upwards to remove it from the opener latch rod. when you get it apart, you will see what i mean.
one piece of advice though... i just did this last week on my driver door, and i broke the arm that clips to the lock cylinder and drives the rod to actuate the lock. be very careful with this. it is one of those "wing" type clips that attaches very easily, but likes to break when taken off. you will see. if you do break it, they are only about 3 bucks. i have to still put mine on.
If you haven't installed yet, I would take the locke back and get a handle without the lock in it and use just the drives side. Unless you need both locks. This may cut down on future problems like you had. Just a thought.
I guess I could eliminate the lock on the pass side, but then they just go to the drivers door and repeat. My neighbors truck had probs with the power remote, so more headaches with that too. I can still use the remote to open or lock the door, so at least it still functions, so dont have to be in a big hurry. This had to have happened in a parking lot, as it sleeps in the garage at night, and spends the day in a secure parking garage 100' in front of my shop door.
well, since you have it keyed already, i would just put it in. its not too terrible of a job... the 2 nuts inside to door are the tricky ones to get to.... i did mine outside in the cold, so that made it tough, but otherwise its pretty straight forward.
