So, today i finally got around to changing my oil, oil filter and fuel filter. Oil was a piece of cake as always, and the fuel filter is easy to change also(I didnt think it would be that easy with the DAHL). So I let about 10K go between my fuel filter change, and i can't belive how black it got. I mean, I used to let my factory one go 10K and it was always a a darkish brown color, not black like this....
The old filter on on the right lol.
This brings me up to my question, is the dahl filtering better than stock, or did i just get hit with a ton of dirty fuel this change? I have been fueling at the same places I have always been fuelin up at, i have been driving my truck a bit less lately tho. Im happy to see that it is working and it seems like it is filtering better than stock.
Well hell, i've had my Dahl for a year and a half now, haven't changed the filter. Been about 10000 miles though. The vacuum gauge still shows 3" so i dont know...
The standard Dahl element is 2-microns, and I've been led to believe that the stock Ford filters only down to about 10 microns.
When I last changed my Dahl element, it looked very much like yours did, and my stocker was virtually clean and new-looking. I had around 20,000 miles on the Dahl at the time.
It's my understanding that the 2 micron Dahl does filter better than the stock one, which seems to be supported by the darker color of the element compared to stock. One tip, don't forget to burp the air out of the top of the filter after the change. Simply loosen the **** on the top that's off to the side, I believe it's called something like the priming hole and the **** is knurled, about 1" in diameter. Loosen it until all the air is out and fuel comes out the top, provided the Dahl is lower than your tank and the tank is full. The pressure from the fuel will purge the air. Don't take it out too far though or you'll have a messy fuel spill on to clean up...I found this out first hand.
Jeremy, do you have just the Dahl pre pump and the areomotive inline one after the pump? I saw the stock filter in your web gallery shots. Do you still have that hooked up or does it just go to the y-block?
I tried to burp the dahl by flipping it over and the fuel ended up going back in the tank. I only had a 1/4 tank but the dahl is mounted below the tank. Im going to try the priming hole tommorrow. I loosen that up to get the fuel out of the bowl faster(whoa did it come out after that plug was taken out).
I recently did a fuel filter change and it looked similar to yours, maybe not quite as dark though. My question is.........since it was that dirty, should I change the new one right away? Not sure if the new one will last a normal amount of time after the fuel was that dirty. BTW.....I use FRAM filters. Thanks
