My truck has been sittin for a few weeks between waitin for parts/tools/etc. to get the transmission(C-4 auto) up and runnin again(just needed a new pan). I go to start it up, takes like 8 trys and 10 minutes...which wasn't all that much of a surprise...the problem comes later, at first it started up, and ran near perfect. After a lil while tho, it started havin a fast idle, it had this problem before, got a reman Holley for her and it had a fast idle. Think I might need to adjust the fast idle speed, choke, regular idle speed, or what else?
Also, the transmission won't drop into gear...I've moved the gear shift through every gear and she will not drop into gear. When I put fluid in I just put enough in to fill the pan, since I had it sittin with no gasket on the pan for quite a few weeks, maybe more fluid drained outta the transmission than the pan holds and she's jus parched...or could it be something else?
It takes like ~12 qts to fill an automatic tranny. Much more then a couple in the pan will do. Did you check the stick while running? It's probably dry as it pulled what little was in the pan and starting pumping it thru tranny, convertor and cooler.
Don't run it too long without fluid as you don't want to burn the pump up as the fluid also lubricates the parts.
As for hard starting? Something is wrong there. Mine can sits for months and fire after a couple tries/pumps of throttle.
Are you using the choke? electric or manual control? Is it turning off fully? There is a HIGH idle setting that is adjustable on passenger side of carb(small screw, hard to get to that rides on cam of choke control). There is also an idle setting on drivers side of carb, easy to get to. Might need to adjust it down a touch? If you are unfamiliar with the operation of a Holley, you might want to search online for some basic instruction on setting it up correctly. It will ease the pain some.

Well I didn't completely drain the tranny, just the pan and whatever seeped outta the valve body, there's still bound to be plenty in the converter...but I'll double check the level, looked fine to me...it was kinda dark and I got a crappy flashlight...maybe next time i'll spring for a Mag-Lite instead of the dollar store crap
Well now that i got it started the first time she starts jus fine so I don't think it's a problem.
Another question, anyone know where I could find a kit to convert my 2100 to electric choke?
The choke flap will be directly straight up(open fully) and the 'high idle" cam will be down. This is on the passenger side of carb, there will be a screw that rides on cam. When the choke is closed, the cam is up, pushing the throttle open slightly(raising the idle). Then the choke opens, it drops the idle back down.
