Instead of spending all the time & money switching over to MAF, what about boring & stroking the motor for more cubes? Maybe like a 331 stroker kit, but with a cam that won't trip the computer. Might not get much power but you should get a gain from extra cubes right?
My goal with my project Ford - (Not an everyday driver by they way, just a project) I'd like to be able to get 260-280+ horses out of the 302. I might have to buy a lot of stuff like full exhaust, heads, cam, intake, and so on...but do you think with speed density you can get 260-280 horses?
I know you have stated that you want to stick with the speed density, but the conversion to Mass Air isnt all that complicated or pricey, hit up ebay and you can usually find complete conversions off of the fox body mustangs for under 250 bucks, here is a link to a site where they did a conversion on a pickup
A MAF conversion by itself won't really give you any more power than the speed density system. The reason you would install mass air is because it self adjusts for other mods, such as intake and exhaust, cam upgrades, or boring and stroking the engine.
Increasing the displacement of your engine won't do much good when your speed density system still thinks the engine is stock. Of course there are places that can reprogram your speed density computer settings, but that would cost more than coverting to mass air.
I'd like to be able to get 260-280+ horses out of the 302.
So.. let it breath. Put a decent exhaust system on it and either an SD friendly cam or a set if 1.7 ratio roller rockers if it's a '94+ motor. No need for mass air with these minor mods.
