I just swapped a 2004 f250 speedometer from a mph unit to kph for canada. I lost the tranny temp gauge but gained an ammeter. It was literally a plug and play and after doing my research, (Thanks for the great site, first time posting) took me about 20 minutes. My only bug is the "door ajar" light will not go out, which makes me think the new unit came from a 4-door (mines a supercab). Anybody know of a way around this glitch? I don't mind not having the light on at all, so if you know how to disable it, let me know.
Have you looked at how the bulbs are arranged? It may be as simple as pulling a bulb. Just remember to make sure your doors are shut since you'll lose that warning.
Thanks guys; I guess I'll look at the old one to see how to pull the bulb or...? Thought it may be as easy as snipping a wire to isolate my (lack of) back doors, but it's no biggee to pull the dash now. Oh, and yes, I did make sure I slammed the doors extra hard this time. Many thanks to the post about making your own wire tools to pull the radio.
I can't believe Ford would have a different gauge cluster for regular and crew cab trucks, so I dont' believe that is your problem.
Does your dome light work correctly? It could just be the common door sensor problem acting up. Spray the door latches with WD40 and open/shut them a few times.
Yes, everything worked fine before, I just wanted the kph instead of mph. Now I found something else that doesn't work right; the 4wd light that comes on at the top left part of the cluster does not work anymore, or the 4wd low light. I looked at the new faceplate of the gauges and the cut-out, barely visible for the 4wd lights are there, I'm suspecting that Ford has a different part # for these units and they are not interchangeable between 2X4 and 4X4, or super/reg cab and crewcab. Any techies out there can confirm this??
