I re-assembled my 460 last August and ever since I has had a clicking like lifter but it is not. The engine runs great, but the noise is really bothering me.
I guess this motor had this problem before so the original owner sold it, the guy that bought it fixed it then sold it to me a couple years later. the guy I bought it from has since moved so I can't contact him.
>I assume no old parts were re-used in the valvetrain?
What do you mean by old parts?
The reason I tore the engine down was because I bent two pushrods severely. So I took it down put new rod and main bearings in it although the ones I took out were within tolerance. I also put 16 new pushrods and lifters it just as a precaution in cause others were damaged. The cam was in good shape. I re-used the rockers and they are 1.7:1 aluminum rollers.
George I thought of the exhaust but didn't think that was it. I am going out this morning to replace both header gaskets because they blew out. I whould be great if that solves the problem.
Have you checked your rocker arm preload? All of the rockerarms should be snug against the tip of the valve when both valves are closed for that cylinder. Ya need to make sure that all of you valve keepers are good(in other words, not working loose) and you pushrods are the correct legnth. Make sure your springs are good too. I lost a motor this way(dropped a valve because of keeper failure, thought it was lifter noise and ignored it)
