I am planning a 347 build from a 1992 Mustang engine. This will be planted in a IFS off road rock buggy with a C4 auto and a Stak T-case.
Are there any problems that occur with tuning the stock fuel injection? Bigger injectors, programming needed, certain computer that is best, fuel issues... willl any C4 bell housing bolt to the engine I plan to use?
Also is it worth my time to convert to distributorless ignition - or stick with something like a DUI...
I am currently running a 545 in my Jeep that I am pretty happy with - so thought what the heck might as well make the new one Ford powered too. I used Trick Flow top end, Comp cam valve train, Scat crank and H beam rods. Holley muliport - just not as familiar with the Ford small blocks and the fuel injection.
Need a C4 housing from a 289 302 or 351 Windsor. As far as the rest depends on budget they have a lot of new selfcontained EFI units now with there own computer may be easier than trying to reprogramm fords stock one. Why the C4 the C6 is a much better trans if you want a 3 speed?

Reason: Addition
I am shooting for 3400lbs for the entire rock buggy and the C4 is also shorter than the C6 so I can make sure I have a decent rear driveshaft length. I am probably going to grab a core C6 as well and if I can get it in will use it instead. Just got a free C4 core and am trying for the same for a C6.
Also got some amazing info from Matt Held at Holley. This motor is going to get a 75 shot of nitrous as well. He offered me a great deal on the Big shot plate system that goes between the top and bottom parts of the manifold.
The C-4 can be built very strong. On top of being shorter Ive also heard the C-6s weight is around 50 lbs more, and has about 25 more HP loss than a C-4. These are numbers I havent confirmed but have seen often. I havent had the chance to play with the ford efi (I have a 90 and a 96 5.0 but not much for mods, yet) but if you have the stock ford system already I hear it is a very good and quite simple to tune if needed. Ive been looking at the anderson ford motorsport programable engine management system. It is a piggy back unit that is plug and play (without a lap top!) Looks awsome but not exactly cheap either at just about $1100.
I was going to go LS-1 and Turbo 350 - same reason to keep it light but I like my 460 stroker in my big Jeep and came up with this good deal on the 5.0L. I am trying to keep weight in check so if the C4 will work just as well up to 400hp or so - I will definitely go that route. Just found a core tranny for a case of beer (I am in Canada you know that’s like hard cash), so I can do all the mock up - then buy a tranny from TCI beefed ready and with warranty - good deal at 800.00 no core.

400 HP no problem. Cash? Beer is like gold, it seems to keep getting more expensive but everyone still has to have it. He who controls the beer controls the world.......maybe not but it sounded good.
