[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Dec-02 AT 01:57 PM (EST)]I know it will vary from location to location to city, but what kind of charges am I looking at to go thru my block and heads for my 429? Line bore and balance, boring out and honing the cylinders with torque plates, go thru the heads, guides, valve job, the usual?
I have a cost sheet for my current engine that includes block shop costs. No head information, but figure on $50 for hot tank, $175-200 for a 3-angle valve job that includes a surface clean-up, $150-200 for SS valves (depending on quality), springs/retainers $100-150, bronze guides $80.
Ok, I got it printed. I cant remember what brand of pistons I looked at, but someone makes the dished in pistons, to lower my compression ratio down. They were dished in, etc. Jegs doesnt offer alot, just the regular ones, and I have the D0VE-A heads.
It'll be tough finding a 429 piston to lower your c/r. 429s don't have near the piston selection of the 460. Check piston manufacturer websites, call summit and Jegs.
Ok, Im seeing the problem with 429 pistons and selection. With the lower deck height, alot of companies pistons wont fit. Ive thought about fetching a 460 engine with a manual trans, from a 75-78 truck, so Ill have my bellhousing for the bronco Im getting. Id like to know what everyone else is using for pistons, etc.
