Never tried it myself, but this isn't the first forum that I've come across it being mentioned, so I can't comment on whether it's snake-oil or not. I've toyed with the idea, but at 177,xx mi. I am leary.
Hey, you guys ever try Marvel Mystery oil?? Great stuff!! I've used it a couple of times-seems to pick up the pace when I use it in the gas. In the winter when its cold, I sub a 1/2 quart of oil with this--starts great when it sub-zero out, and doesn't beat up the viscosity of your oil. Good stuff!!! It's been around a long time...
well like i said earlier, i used this stuff for the first time as described. I didnt feel or see much difference at first. However, i just took it for a drive, it is a second vehicle, after sitting for four days and the idle is smoother and it idles where it should now. I was idling around 1000-1200 after doing everything i could. Now it is around 800, i know its a little high still but it sure helped a lot. I would definately recommend it!!!
jv4, glad to hear it seems to have worked, maybe come spring I'll try it.
drb, better to go with a good 5w20 imho.
My '94 doesn't call for a weight that low [it's 10w30] but my own internet research leans toward the lower numbers [I would use 0w20 synth but the trucks burns oil], so I use 5w20 dino.
I use Super Tech (Wal-Mart) 5w30. Had a little chatter on start up on those frigid morns,--changed oil, added Marvel, no chatter, easy starts. Had a Dodge van for awhile, 6 qt.oil pan--in the winter, I would sub 1 qt. for easy start up on those freezing days.
Instead of the needle technique, buy a can of Deep Creep. its sea foam in aerosol form. I use it to treat the fuel of my lawn stuff. I've never tried it in my ranger, it magically loses 1 qt of 5wo every oil change as it...
While there are other fuel system cleaners out there that far outperform Seafoam (such as Chevron with Techron's Fuel System Cleaner), seafoam works fairly well when sucking it into the intake via a vacuum line. Works similiar to misting water into a carbed engine to break up carbon.
old school guy's tell me.that atf fluid does miracles also.atf is really a good cleaning agent for motors.you use it like seafoam.except pour it in the carb or throttle body slow and only about half a quart.i tried it on a old s-10 i had and it was cool.if you think seafoam makes smoke you have no idea.
