I was just wondering what everyone's best suggestion for cleaning heads is? I tried the checmical cleaner bath, but that was not too succesful.

No rockers, pushrods, valve springs, or valves. So bare.

Hmm.. nope. Is it alright to sandblast bare heads? I am assuming it is seeing as porting will get stuff in them, just as long as i clean em out and hot bath em. Too bad though, our glass beader is not working for some odd reason.

Sand blasting is OK, depending on how much control you have. Stay off the head surface, don't peen the valve seats to much.

Make sure the heads are good and dry. Sand will stick in the water passages and usually come pout when you don't want it to.

The problem is that the closest machine shop to me is at least 60 miles away. So I was kind of looking for solutions that i could do. I do have an extensive amount of tools available to me.

Where you live, using anything liquid outside this time of year is going to be difficult, so that kind of limits your options. To clean the water passages and degrease, you could immerse the heads in a weak caustic soda solution available from a chemical house (gloves, glasses and precautions)using a small plastic tub. Another plastic tub for water and neturalizer. Dispose of accordingly. Then I'd use a wire brush on a drill to remove carbon and anything left from the degreaser. Gasoline, then soap and water for the final cleaning, then oil. Almost makes a 120-mile round trip to the hot tank sound like a winner.

Great project for the class. You could solve your problem and provide an opportunity for the students to achieve a learning curve. If they don't have a hot tank, there has to be a science teacher who could whip up an effective cleaning solution they could use in the parts washer or plastic tubs. If you supplied wire wheels and cost of the cleaning solution, it wouldn't dent their budget. Or, if the instructor is an understanding sort, use their facilities.

But i am flattered that you would think otherwise!
