Looking to replace tranny on my early 99. Also want to upgrade my tranny cooler at the same time. Who or where would you guys recommmend? What tranny cooler should I get? Thanks Alan
the cooler you can get from 6.0 trucks, its bout 3x the size of 7.3, best bang for the buck. the trans, BTS of course, is an option, John Wood trans, and im sure other guys will give you more info on other trans guys.
on Edit:
depending what you going to do with you truck, and how long you going to keep it. those upgrades can run up to 4500$ very quick.....
so give us more info.....

Are you kidding BTS is the only choice and the 6.0 cooler
What do you have in mind?
BTS has an iron clad reputation for quality product and service after the sale.
He is also in the upper ranks, price wise, but you get what you pay for.
Some people are willing to spend the extra coin for that reliability and peace of mind.
.
Nothing sucks worst than to have your tranny quit on you halfway out on a long trip.
I'm not sure where you are exactly. Greenwood WI has 2 locations according to Mapquest. It lists 2 Greenwood WI. One in Clark and the other in Vernon county. If you are interested, I might ask somebody if he wants to do after hours work and install your trans for 3 - 400 dollars. I got the BTS unit shipped to the Fedex Freight place on Hwy 51 and brought it there and he installed it for me.
I am very happy with my BTS unit. However, before you buy it, I would do some soul searching. Do you plan to keep the truck? If not, just buy the cheapest one that works. It does sound like you are planning to keep it. So I would go the BTS route. Tell him what you want and he will build it for you right. Give him a call at 1-870-422-3673. I'm glad that I won't have to pay for another trans if this breaks even outside the 2 yr written warranty.
As a sideline, when my trans broke with his VB in it, I drove it for over 100 miles in black burnt fluid, full of debris and he gave me credit for it. Also when I asked him about having to do a torque stand to test the turbo pipes for leaks, he said "If you break it, I'll fix it.". Many builders won't touch you if you have chipped it or tell them it broke while doing a torque stand.
I`m in Clark county. The truck has 244,000 miles on it and motor and tranny haven`t been touched. I`ve ran a Superchips tuner the last four years, only other mod was AIS filter installed. It still runs good, although it doesnt seem to have the power it used to. I have been tossing back and forth about which way to go. I should drive this truck another year or two. My tranny isn`t shot but I want to put a new torque converter in. I cant stand the rattling original one any more. I probably have 12,000 miles pulling my 9000 pound trailer, other than that it was driven mostly highway miles with no load. The truck is in good shape otherwise. Ford wants 2025.00 for a rebuilt and my brother inlaw could put in in for me. ( Ford is 3yr-75000 miles) A local guy that was recommended to me wants about 2700.00 installed with one year warranty. He claims that would be with some upgrades. Better torque converter. He is the one that made me think I should rebuild it. His is a forged one ? The torque converter is 383.00 from ford. My brother inlaw would also install that . I am having a hard time making up my mind. The BTS tranny sounds awesome but maybe a little more than I want to spend on it. Could someone tell me exactly what parts I need to put a 6.0 tranny cooler on my truck? thanks Alan

Your trans isn't shot but at 244K, it is very questionable. At least more questionable than a new or slightly used trans with say 5000 miles on it. Would you be throwing good money after bad by installing a good TC in it if it breaks? I wouldn't. Ask me how I know if you can't guess by now.
I'd get the rebuilt one from Ford or the HD one way before I trust some guy I don't know with a "performance build". If he is so good, why a 1 yr warranty only? What are the exclusions? If it were me, I'd either go with the Ford reman one and not the HD one and have done with it. Cheaper and better warranty.
You made it to 244K. I made it to 55K before mine broke. It is all hard to say. The idea that I won't need to pay for another rebuild PLUS his great service before AND after the sale with help on other matters is what sold me. We won't even bother to talk about his reputation.
You need TRANNY HOSES. Don't get anything else or you will regret it. Your current hose size is 3/8 and the new one is 1/2. So, you will need to get some brass fittings to make an adapter. I just used a fitting that has a 3/8 in barb on one end and another fitting with a 1/2 in barb on the other end. The trick is that one of these fittings has to have male thread and the other female. Teflon tape it and that is your adapter. Repeat.
