I was thinking the same thing 6.0. I run a SCT Looney tune and annihilate my brothers chipped 5.9. Now he has WAY more potential after you pass the tuner and exhaust stage but I woop his *** now.
Plus, I would rather run a few mph slower then spend any more time than I have to inside the dodge. The seats are uncomfortable and the rest of the interior is crap.
I guess "burst my bubble" was a little strong. I still love my F250. I just wish it got better fuel economy.
I will take the advice and stay away from Bully Dog. I had a Diablo Predator in my F150 gasser with 4.6. It was good for changing speedo calibration and shifting but I could see no difference in fuel economy.
From my reading so far and a son in law who I bought my truck from the SCT or Superchips seems to be the way to go for programmers. My SIL said they installed them on 6.0L PSDs at the dealership and never had a warranty problem. This was in NC.
I have a friend with a Superchip tuner who is going to let me try it out. I will post back.
SCT = Superchips Custom Tuning. Superchips = Superchips. Not custom, but tuned. Just try your buddies Superchips and if you dig it, call an SCT programmer like SDT or Innovative and you'll be even happier.
That sounds like a good plan 07spdrookie. I'm not looking to blow the heads off my engine, just have it drive a little better and get better mpg.
I have resisted the urge to tune until fuel went over $3/gal. Now I'm paying $3.35 or more so it costs over a C-note to fill the tank. 2-3mpg is about 20% so 1 tank/week and in 20 weeks I've paid for the tuner.
Now the big question can anyone tell me if they are getting 2-3 more mpg? I have a spreadsheet and have tracked every tank for 50k miles. I should be able to see the difference.

Most of the SCT tuners will be able to write you a "mileage" tune, which will good for maybe another 1-2 MPG in addition to some HP/torque. There's room for two other tunes (on an SCT X2) so you can still have a tow/street/strip tune if you'd like. Keep an eye on your tire pressure and drive "heads-up" and you'll have a little extra oomph and MPG...
I'm under the impression the SD is a little heavier than the Dodge or GM competition. If this is true, then that would account for some of the mileage difference.
Besides being able to smoke the Toyo's the Dodge pulled away from my Ford significantly. Another thing I noticed was that it never downshifted on any hills even in O/D. It just pulled.
That is the one and only thing I do miss about my 06 Cummins!! I loved pulling the hills towing my hauler in Overdrive!! I used to just floor it at 75-80 mph and cruise right up the hills in OD! My Power Stroke downshifts at the smallest hills, it goes good, but its annoying having it dowshift and rev up higher to pull the hills.
i tried out the bully dog 3 day trial, i did see an increase in mileage and no permanent damage done, but the guy who gave it to me told me to go out and let it eat. i did this only after driving for about three hours and my rpms went over 3 grand before shifting i got scared and let off the pedal. thought my tranny was going to drop. the shift was so delayed that my momentum was slowing down and rpm's were still climbing. then i got on the internet and read alot of bad reviews about the bull dog. i haven't got any other tuner yet, i have 74k and am waiting for warranty. just wanted to share my experience with you to help your decision.
Everyone will jump on me for this but i like my bullydog and outlook combo it defuels to whatever temps i set it to, i can adjust shifting pressure it can read codes the options are there to adjust on the fly if needed, it moniters many temps and is upgradable over the internet. For me i only needed 50 ***** to be happy and thats all i ever set it to. It gives me about 1-2 more miles per gallon. I would get both together it's a better package. On the other hand no one deals sct where i live and i didn't want to gamble with somebody tunning my truck that i couldn't talk to in person i wanted the person to person customer service if there were any problems. From what i hear the sct is the best.Hopefully Matt will move to BC Canada one day.Bullydog has been good to me so far.
