I have a 02 f-150 68642mi 4x4 5.4L with true dual exhaust, cold air induction, throttle body spacer and hypertech programmer. Last year around this time, my truck began to misfire while pulling my boat(No check engine light). I went back home, took out the tuning (no codes) and waited until the next day for the trip to the dealership. When I went to take the truck the next morning, I could not get the truck to misfire. No matter what I did the truck ran like a champ. I reinstalled the tuning and had no problems until saturday 12/29.
On saturday, it began misfiring again while taking a short trip. Sometimes it was so bad (two or more cylinders) that I did not think I would make it to my destination. I went back home, took the tuning out yesterday (no codes/engine light) and still ahev the same miss but not as bad. I have no idea about these computerized motors. Can someone please help me or give me a place to start. Thanks guys and gals.
I have had no problems except for the above stated. The only work done to the truck is regular servicing.

Mine did the same thing after pulling a load and went away much like yours did. A few months later it came back and no matter what rpm the engine was reved to it was still there. I changed the plugs and that was the end of it, problem fixed. Your mileage is kind of low for a plug change (normally they go out at about 100K) but i would be willing to bet that is your problem. Mine didn't throw a code when mine went out. There is a really good link here to help you (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ht=spark+plugs) it really helped me out alot with my first change! Good luck and keep us updated!
Thanks guys, I was thinking that plugs might be in order for this matter but after reading other posts and finding trucks running 75000-100000miles before a change I was skeptical. I will definitely give it a shot and change the fuel filter while I'm at it.
Thanks again for all your help and I'll keep you posted on changes.
