I am looking at purchasing a 2005 Explorer XLS, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the 2005 models?
It has the 4.0L V6 (overhead cam and two valves per cylinder) with a automatic tranny (5R55E) and it also has the stability control. Is that all standard?
Is the 2 valve OHC engine as reliable as the older ones?
Please help I would like as much info as possible.
oh yeah and aHAPPY and SAFE NEW YEAR TO ALL!!
The only things to point out are: Check to be sure that it was serviced regularly, Drive it around awhile and make sure the trans. shifts correctly and not sluggish, do a slow acceleration and a hard acceleration. If it has the LS rear end, listen very closely to see if there are any noises especially between 52 and 60 MPH, run at that speed on flat ground with just a slight throttle and if there is any noise it will show up. If it is at a dealer then see if they will print off a report showing any repairs done during the warranty period.
The V6 is a good motor, alot of people opted for the V8 due to the fact there is only about 1 MPG difference in fuel economy.
Happy New Year to you. Good luck and hope this helps, Greg
