AOD into a 74?

AOD into a 74?
i think there might be a post about this already, but to be honest i just spent 2 hours in the 5.0 forum and i gotta get back to work. is it possible to put an AOD into a 74 with out having to get a new driveshaft/cross member. i believe i read somewhere that i could just drill new holes for the cross member and the drive 2 piece shaft should have enough play in it so that i shouldnt have to worry? is it going to cause any binding? oh and its mating up to a 5.0HO out of an 86 mustang. pulled them as a pair.

Depends on wheel base and tail shaft length, you need to put the tape on it that might answer some of your questions.I have replaced auto to 4 speed and just used the standard trans cross member,I just put a 5 speed into a short wheel base 77 and used the motor mount from a 78 with auto trans this pushed the eng. back 1 1/2 inch so my trans is now 3 inches back of the factory position. so you see if you swap stuff you need to look closely at several things. Use the rule and you will get as close as possible. JNT
