Hello all new here I may as well start off with asking for some serios help!!!
I used my truck all morning yesterday hauling brush, all the while using 4 wheel drive, that said after I was done I parked it in my driveway. I came out about a hour later and started it and the 4X4 and the low range lights come on on the dash and the switch is in 2wd. The accuator for the trransfer case keeps moving as though it's going into 4wd. It does this as I'm driving along. A buddy of mine put his scan tool on it and it came up with a bunch of codes which he cleared but it's still doing it. I'm screwed because they are talking 6 to 10 here tonight...Anyone have any ideas!!! I was told that it could be a bad selector switch but I also think it could be the GEM module???
Tested the selector switch and it's not that...I'm at a loss here! I start the truck and you can hear the accuator from the transfer case operate into 2wd and then it goes right into 4wl????
Gem modules don't usually go in that area..I'm guessing you have issues with the connector or switch that tells the motor its in whatever gear. You can manually get it into 4hi and disconnect the motor you may be able to use the truck.
I still think that tsb is saying its a switch on the motor.. From what I have heard you can take the motor off and turn whatever needs turning inside there to get it into 4 hi. Then you need to align the motor to it and button it back up and pull the motor elec plug. I did it to an old explorer once and have heard guy's talk about it here.
Got the motor switch assembly out and took off the cover to the motor and it's full of oxidation. Tells me water got in it some how. Going to clean it and put it back in if it doesn't work then I'll have to try and put it in 4wh manually!!
