I have a 2001 5.4 4x4 F-150 with about 70,000 miles. For awhile now right when it hits 2nd gear it will make a loud grinding noise and vibrate in the pedals alot! also shifting down into 1st idle dip down to about 2-300rpm....this does not happen all the time. my local dealer said something about a shudder that might be getting stuck or my idea is torque converter?! Any other ideas?? also dosent happen in any other gears and if i am stopped and shift manually into 2nd it will idle jump 500-1200 rpm and then stall!!! please help if you have any info!!
Well, the torque converter clutch doesn't lock until 40mpg in 3rd or 4th gear, so that is out.
I would suggest getting the fluid power flushed. Sounds like some solenoids may be sticking in the valvebody.
