need some advice

I'm a sophmore in high school. I have a 1965 ford pickup with a 240-6 which gives me about 150 horse. my top speed is about 60. therefore I am looking at putting a fule injected 302 from a 93 ford. this would give me power steering, AC, more horse power, cruise control?,and other such things not avalible to the mainstream american consumer in 65. i'm restoring the truck with my dad and the down side to the 302 is that neither of us know anything about all that fancy electrical computer equipment. the 240 we can work on all day long and have no problem puting back toghther. just looking for some honest opinions, is this going to give me nothing but headaches? and since i'm paying for everything myelf i'm on a limited budget.

thanks guys

just because the 93 has power steering and cruise control and electronic fuel injection does not mean all that will work in the 65.

putting in a 302 with a carb would be a better choice.

that is a LOT of work and very complcated. yes it is very doable and unfortunalaty very expensive. you will be basically building a new truck. if your dad has a lot of time and even more skill, go for it. but that project very time consuming, but is is doable...it might even be faster to switch out the cabs...but if you dont know any thing about that fancy electrical computer eqipment,it might just be a headache, the project is going to take some fancy wiring, this is my two cents. take it or leave it but i would leave it. you might just want to switch to a 302 with a carb then you would have power without all the headache.

there's a company pailess its called that makes wiring harnesses for theses types of swaps so even tho still difficult that should greatly simplify the wiring portion

the 93 belongs to my dads friend he was going to use the engine in a similar fashion but got sick of the project so the deal is i got the engine for some manul labor how hard is it to convert from fuel injection to carberation on these things? and since i'm not in a smog area will the engine run without all the smog and ERG stuff?

Im with quicklook2, the carb motor will simplify alot of it for you. If you were looking for more power maybe search for a motor that was also offered for your truck in that year, i bet that would be your cheapest solution.

You will also have to consider the fuel system, carbed engines require a lot less pressure than an injected engine. You could use the tank from the 93 with the pump in the tank or buy a high pressure pump which can get expensive.

I am putting an injected 302 from a crown into my 69 torino, it is a lot of work. The easiest way for me so far has been to pull all the harnesses and lay them out and keep them WELL labeled. Have the donor vehicle close by.

Good luck with your project, hope all goes well with it.

I have done some swaps and yes anything is possible but can get expensive !The first thing to do is go to painless to see if they have {or can make a wiring harness}and how much it will cost then if that is feasable then start searching for a late model donor truck this will give you the engine/trans/computer/acessories look at this cost then by now you will realize that a 302 carbed engine swap will be simpler and more cost effective
