speed sensor wire
Ive got a 99 f150 that a pioneer d3 radio will be going in but have no clue which wire comming from the computer is the speed sensor wire. I was wondering if someone might know. Thanks

The marketing department weenies call it "speed sensitive volume control". Basically, it automatically turns the radio volume up to cover road noise.

Commercial GPS units do not get your speed from your vehicle's speed sensor or an internal accelerometer; they calculate it over a constant time interval based on the distance travelled. In other words, the GPS figures it out on its own. Like the others said, the connection is for speed\volume control...I think it's a really cool feature.

GPS units rely on satelite-transmitted data and don't need any VSS data to figure out where they are, how fast it's traveling, or anything else.
They're all self-contained except for power and perhaps an external receiving antenna. The computer is constantly recalculating based on current data being received.
