I am swapping a 302/c4 in a 79 f100 short box with a 460/c6. other than the motor mounts, what else will i need to change to make this work. i.e. ignition control, driveshaft, radiator.......
The radiator is probaby something to address. You might consider finding or buying a 460 radiator to help with the cooling...especially if you do any engine mods. If you swap in the radiator the hoses will match right up. The duraspark ignition will also plug right in with no mods. IIRC the C4 is a shorter tranny than a C6 so you may have to shorten the D-shaft. I dont forsee any major problems bolting a 460 in.
LMC truck has a bolt in engine mount kit, for this swap, so i hope that it works. the radiator makes sense, its pretty much a stock 460 for now. I am looking into an analog MSD set up. The MSD boxes, can they replace the duraspark ignition modules?
yes the MSD would replace the duraspark module but the duraspark is about the best factory ignition for stock or mildly modified engines out there. I wouldnt replace it unless you are doing some serious engine mods on a high rpm engine.
The Alt probably mounts on the lower left hand side of the engine. You might need to buy/find the bracket to mount it up toward the middle or top of the LH side of the engine. The power steering pump setup may also need to be swapped for a saginaw style pump
I have plans on fender exit headers. will this work? I have rebuilt this truck from the ground up, a full off frame rebuild. the engine bay has been stripped and the AC/Heater blower box has been taken out of the firewall and the hole patched. the inner fenders have been stripped also. the battery has been relocated behind the seat.
I have had alot of problems with the ignition module going bad frequently. Do you guys have suggestions on prolonging these. Mine is fender mounted, in the original stock location. I would like to pull it back into the cab, and get it out of the engine bay and away from the heat.
