I have been chasing a cooling leak on my 99' F-250 5.4. The area that is leaking is out of a small hole just below the upper radiator hose connection, below thermostat. Was told it was the water pump and it wasnt. Any help is greatly appreciated. cb f250
After much head banging yesterday and tearing stuff apart. I think that the problem is just a corrosion problem as I picked at area and is now at 5/16th , finally got to good metal and now need to find a way to seal the hole. This is part of the block so I need to proceed with caution. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks..........Cb f250
If welding will distort the metal try a really good epoxy/metal putty. Get something better than JB weld but that area is not a hihg stress or high pressure area. sand or gring the surface smooth and reassemble as usual
You could try some of the metal-filled two part epoxy products, JB Weld or something like Alvin's Lab Metal. The puttys come in a tube with the two parts concentric(black in center and white around it as an example). You cut off the desired amount and mix it by kneading, then use it. Some of this stuff gets pretty hard as it's steel filled. The Lab Metal is like a paste, comes is a small tin like a paint can. You can build it up in layers if you need thicker layers of it. Once cured it can be machined, drilled, tapped, sanded, and painted. I used it once to repair one of the ears on a distributor where the cap screws down and it worked fine.
