guys i just thought of this ,,after i posted my last ? yesterday i was going hunting ,and tried to put the cruise control on , i turned it on and pressed the set stitch on the steering wheel...the cr control lighgt just flickered once and DID NOT engage, i tried several times, same response... however on the way home i tried again and it worked fine..could this be indicative of a vaccume leak somewhere? has any body experienced this before? ideas, advice ? thanks Britt
Tough to diagnose over the 'net. It could be anything from an ABS issue to an electrical problem in the cruise system or even just a "stuck" brake light switch.
I agree with Biz, this could be an early warning that the recalled switch is starting to fail. The switch in question is NORMALLY CLOSED and opens on brake fluid pressure at the master cylinder to disengage the cruise control. Heres the bummer, the wires to this circuit are HOT AT ALL TIMES. When the recalled switch starts to leak hydraulic fluid, the combination of power and fluid, has been suspected to start a fire even though the rig is parked. If you are in doubt, pull the plug to this switch immediately and get it to a dealer.
im out of town for holidays... truck is at home----where is the switch? i'll unplug it when i get home, dont know about the switch being swapped out . ill call dealer and get it checked out. Thanks guys ---now if i could get the squeeeeeeeeky front end taken care of......thanks Britt
The switch is screwed into a hole in the front end of the brake master cylinder which protrudes forward from the firewall above the brake pedal. It is probably red in colour on your model unless it has been replaced. The recall includes a fuseable link AND a new switch if the current switch shows any sign of leakage.
