I have a set of 460 rods with C9AE on the cap and D00E on the beam are these just average or better rods. My second question is what internals are different on a 460 than a 429 besides the crank. Is it the rods or pistons or both. Thanks Andy
BigF250....Is right about the difference between the 429 and 460, Crank and pistons. Tell us about those rods? Do they have square rod bolts or oval shape ones? If they have square rod bolts there the base type 429 or 460 rod. If they have oval shaped rod bolts there Cobra Jet rods. Both rods work good but the CJ's are a little stronger on the bolt shoulder area.

Thamks Id guess square they are more square than oval. I just happened to be looking at the rods today and the D00E kinda made me wonder. I was thinking it was the crank and pistons. I have a 69 429 in my truck now with the factory flatops and C9 heads and love the big compresion. I also
have a complete 68 429 and a 460 in need of a bore and pistons etc. but I have a new 460 crank to. I was kinda hoping to just put the crank in the 429 and keep the factory flattops. But I guess its not happening. Ill just get some good pistons for the 460 and run the C8 heads from the 429. The best part is Im thinking about all this and the engine in the truck doesnt even have a thousand miles on it and runs great. Just planning for bigger badder next time. Thanks Andy
