Teammudd, it seems like you know a lot about exhaust issues. So heres my question. I have an 00 f-250 with the V-10, it is an off road truck mainly for hunting and mostly around the ranch, I emptied out the cat (to avoid starting fires in the feilds) and welded the empty core back in. There was a increase in power! 90k so it could have been plugged! However there is quite a drone at certain rpms. Im wondering if instead i should just run a peice of pipe in its place? Im thinking that would also be a smoother flow for the exhaust instead of it hammering around in that cat case? Thanks for any input!

It is not good just to gut the cat and put an empty cat housing back in, because it will cause turbulance in the exhaust. Put a piece of pipe straight through the inside of the cat and put it back on. Adding the pipe should help performance and drone. Anywhere in the US gutting or removing a cat is illegal, so keep it hush hush.
just finished it today, now i need a new muffler. Its pretty loud now. Im thinking an fm 70 should quiet it down some, its the original muffler and 90k on it! Thanks for the input dfk !

The FM70 is about the quietest replacement muffler available besides another stock muffler. A dual offset 3" In/Out FM70 should fit the best. I have a pic of one in my gallery. The stock muffler will be the quietest muffler you can get however it is the most restrictive. The FM70 should give you a good sound. I like my FM70 however it is a little on the quiet side for my taste.
I think that cat quiets the exhaust down quite a bit so i figured the 70 would be my safest bet for keeping it toned down without the cats help. The truck i had before was a straight piped 01 cummins, so the quietness is nice for hunting after two years of that noisy beast!
