I picked this bad boy up last week for $200, and drove it to work today.

The u-joint had broken at the rear flange and the driveline had fallen out on the highway. I had a new line built for it and slapped it in yesterday. I Pulled the diff cover and found no damage (or metal shavings), then I took it to the emissions place (passed) and got my tabs.
It's a friggin' tractor! I love it!
Check it out! Just try and tell me you have seen a cooler $200 truck!!
I'd say you did well. A year newer than mine, 4WD and 3000 dollars less to boot, although I didn't have to fix anything.
That's an awesome deal. The only time you see a truck of that age near me for sale at that price it's just a bare frame. The bumpers go for more than that.
I think the guy was crazy to let it go. He had a mechanic tell him it would be in the $2K range for repairs, but could be even more. I'm not sure where he got that number, it cost me a total of $420 to have a brand new driveline custom built for it.
It has brand new Yokohamas on it, I think those TIRES are worth more than I paid for the whole truck!
I think the guy was afraid that something was very wrong with it, and that it might be opening a can of worms to start the repair. I also think the mechanic he went to might have bent the truth a little bit, as he offered to buy it for $200. The mechanic told hime "200 is all I can really give you for it, and I would stilll probably break even if I parted it out".
I also think this guy is happy it went to good home instead of getting chopped up and parted out.......
i hate dishonest auto repair people who are just out for themselves.
If it weren't for libel/slander risks, I'd suggest starting a whole new forum for horror stories about mechanics and dealerships. Got a few I'd love to publish, believe me.
