The biggest single improvement I saw on my '91 4.9L 5-spdOD with 31s was the 4.10 swap, but that's definitely not low-dollar.
The next biggest improvement I saw was a Gibson cat-back 3-in. diameter single system. The thing went on in an afternoon and was good for 1mpg. and a heck of seat-of-the-pants torque gain.
The K & N was not noticeable in any way except, well, I put it on the truck at 0 miles and it now has 178,00 and uses no oil.

An easy gain that I noticed somewhat on my '95 was to remove the air cleaner box tube that runs from behind the left headlight to the air cleaner box. I notice that it improved my mileage a little. Has anyone tried installing Spiral Max units in their intakes on their 300s? Has anyone noticed an improvement with it?
