Hey guys, a little off-diesel topic. I bought my 2004 F-250 XLT, 4X4, 6.0L Diesel, Crew Cab Long Bed about 6 weeks ago.
No keyless remotes were included. I bought 2 new remotes from a very reputable remote dealer on Ebay, following the programming instructions (turn key to on 8 times....etc.). My truck did not enter "program mode".
Question 1) Was keyless entry standard on 2004 F-250 XLTs?
Question 2) If so, is there a different program code sequence?
Question 3) If not, what might be the cause of the failure? Computer setting? Can the keyless entry be disabled? If so, can it be enabled? Cut wires? Where would I look to investigate?
I am by no means an expert, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. To the best of my knowledge, keyless entry is not standard on any model. Therefore, if the truck does not enter program mode, that means that it is not installed in your truck. I recommend you do a search of the archives for relevant threads.

Keyless entry is a feature of the "Advanced Security Group (60F)". The ASG package was standard on Lariat models and an option on XLT models. If your truck has the ASG package there will be a Keypad on the exterior of the drivers door.
So a little off topic but I have an 06 and I need a Key FOB and 1 key ...are the keys available at walmart or hardware stores or is it a dealer only item?

My XLT has the keyless entry. I bought it used so I have no idea if it was added as an option or what. My assumption would be that if you have the keypad on the door, that you have the keyless entry option, otherwise you do not.
Also make sure you follow the instructions in the owners manual to the letter. If you miss a step, or are cycling the key between the wrong positions, it will not work.

Just a plain old standard Ford key blank is all you need.
