Thought I'd share a tip I found on a motorcycle forum about how to remove the anodization from aluminum. One product that works really well is Permatex gasket remover. Comes in a can like spray paint. Spray it on, its kind of foamy and will immediately start bubbling up. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off and\or clean it off with water. I dont have my truck or a grille anymore to test it out but it removed the anodization off the aluminum fork trees and master cylinder on my bike really well, fast and easy. Used some mothers alu polish and it shines up super nice. I assume it would work just as well on a grille or trim to remove the anodization and does not seem to put off any fumes or bad smell, although I wouldnt reccomend huffing it or anything lol. Good luck!
Thanks for passing on the tip; this is a comment ask question here and hopefully will assist us in this very labor intense & costing restoration process. I will try it next week and hopefully will be able to update the results. I got some old parts like body molding trim just sitting around to try it on. Then a 78 model grille to due.
