Chris,
I found a set of them wheel centers(the wheels were with them too, but they are only 6" wide), and I am going to drill and tap my wheels to fit them, they look a heck of alot better than the ones on my truck. The nose is the look I'm going for,I have the chrome grille now, but I am not gonna put it in until I paint the truck, It was only used on the 80 and 81 trucks, 82 was the first year for the grille mounted emblem, but, the 82's are supposed to have the same mirrors as the truck in the ad, which mine doesn't(maybe I should start writing a book...) No kidding about the ch*vys, they are fugly. I was just looking at the ad, and either the truck is way out of line, or the steering wheel is on crossways. My Mercury tailgate just got dropped off(sandblasted and primed,) now all I need is M100 side emblems, after I get the 240 head on and the truck running, I'm gonna see about getting paint, I'm gonna try painting it myself...

Well, I hope you get everything squared away, and running good. About painting it two tone yourself though... Are you sure you want to do it, my dad repainted our '67, F250 (long bed, camper special, 352), wimbledon white, he did a great job, but it was still kinda tough, and this was only a one tone paint scheme, with almost no contours too! Just to think, if you mess it up, you have to prep it again, and your paint job doesn't have a guarantee. If you have previous experience, than you probably know more than me, but if not, painting a truck with that many contours, and colors, probably isn't the best first project. :-)
Plus, we were lucky that we weren't caught, or turned in by our neighbors, it against the law here in Texas, to paint a car without special filters!
Be careful buddy, ;-)

Ps, I'm just going to save up alot of money, over the next couple of years, so I can get my truck repainted by Fo.Mo.Co., it comes with a several year guarantee, so if they mess it up, they'll repaint it over again, free. (I think, I hope!)
https://www.ford-trucks.com/pictorial/big/1986_f150_6.html Here is what i have and it runs like a bat out of hell. I love it but i am ditching it for a 351C 4v. Only reason is that i am going with 39in tires edventually. SOOOO if any of yous guys want some parts (IE: milled head with HD Clifford spring kit, 4bbl clifford intake, headers, 270 degree cam etc....) Let me konw! Mudinford(No Email Addresses In Posts!). Talk to yall later!
Well, I'm gonna stick with the 240 head, I checked the compression before I pulled the old head, 190 psi on all cyls, after I installed the 66 240 head, which has visibly smaller chambers, and equal sized valves, it was up to 210 psi, which according to Carfor v7.2 means it has 9.1:1 compression now, which is plenty for me, I could actually take off in second gear, and it pulls like hell untill about 3200 rpm, where it starts to run out of fuel(cleaned the plugs...) I also got the T-case installed, and I pulled the center section out of the rear end, put in 3.54's, and a ARB air locker, I have yet to put it back together ,and it looks like I'm not be painting it myself, I can get it done cheaper than painting it myself.

Are you planning on converting your Mercury into a 4X4? I have always wanted to do that, but those fiberglass fenders make me nervous, especially after looking at all of the other flairsides around here. On most of the trucks around here, the back halves of the fenders are broken off. Thanks for posting, and I'm glad that everything worked out, how many horses do you think that new head added, and how much torque? I know you probably haven't had it dyno'ed, but maybe a rough estimate?
Thanks again and good luck!

I forgot to ask you, do you use higher octane fuel now that you have the 240 head on? Does it idle, or sound like you need the high octane fuel? Besides the performance gain, are there any other differances, such as mileage, or how it starts, because of the compression?
Sorry to ask you sooo many questions, but this is really interesting! :-)

Well, I can't be sure about the fuel mileage or pinging, I only drove the truck about 5 miles after I put the new head on, but I'd say it added a good 30 or so horses and 60 or 70 ft/lbs of torque, and it sounds and idles a little differently, but it still starts the same as it used to, I ae the timing set so that it almost kicks back on the starter, I noticed that the starter works harder to start it though. I probably will eventually convert to 4x4, but I am headibg more toward a PreRunner now, I just put in the t-case for reduction now.

Chris,
I still haven't got the new rear end together, I just stuck the old(2.73) center section back in, I'm getting about 23 mpg with the new head on. I re-jetted the carb, and can get away with the timing at 6 degrees with regular fuel, theres only a little bit of pinging under hard acceleration(WOT.) I am just about finished re-designing my webpage, added frames this time, don't know if I'm gonna stay with them though. I don't have a very fancy page, because I have a slow connection(14.4) and computer(5 year old P90 with 24mb ram and 880 mb hd)and I don't want to wait hours for my own page to load. I managed to record the sound of my truck before I put the new head on, I can't get it to come through without the interference though, it's on my page now too.
I could help you set up a page if you want me to, just email me(mtflemm.mac@ns.sympatico.ca)

Thank you for that very gracious offer, but I won't be able to take you up on that, until I get myself a scanner, and can get some pictures up there, plus this is a really busy time of year for me. Thanks again, and I'll definately check out your web page, it's on my favorites list!

Well I just got back from your page, and your truck sounds AWESOME!!!!!! It's pretty close to what I want my truck to sound like. For all of those people out there that think 300's sound like speed boats, HA! They've never heard one!
Anyhow, the page looks great, but... I was hoping for one thing, as soon as I heard your truck idle, I was hoping that you'd rev it up really loud and long! lol :-) Anyhow, great site, it's really coming along! I will definately leave you an email, as soon as I'm ready to start my own page! Are you on ICQ by any chance? Just incase you are, my ICQ number, is 61820600.
Good luck with the site!

Well, I would have done that, but I have one problem, I don't have a tach, and I have at least one bad lifter, I am going to cure bolth problems first. As for your lack of a scanner, that could be a problem, I could scan 'em for you, but it would probably be a while before I got them with the distance and all. And, yes, I do have ICQ, number's 2316913
