Does anyone know of a book on 300 sixes? Like with modification ideas--like the zillions in print for V-8's? Next Q: How does one obtain a "factory service manual" like the kind the "professionals" use at the dealerships? I'm pretty sure they come in 3 volumes and are year specific. thanks in advance
I wish there was a book on the 300 six. I have searched all over and found nothing. I did find various passing references in many places, but no performance ideas. If you go through all the messages on this message board and the newer trucks board there is a lot of stuff on 300 sixes and performance, including my posts about the heavy duty 300's Ford used to make with a forged steel crank (vs. cast iron). Then you have to take it with a grain of salt and figure out which is best. You should check with Clifford Performance as they are supposed to have all the performance parts for this and many sixes. I'd like to boost my 300's performance but only in the low RPM range. If I wanted a hot rod revving engine, I would get a V-8. Please let me know if you find a good book.
I don't know of any books written about the 300 straight six, but I have managed to get a lot of good information out of clifford performance.
When I built my 300 I used parts from the local performance shop, Offy intake, Holly carb, Hooker headers and "Aero chamber" muffler. Msd ignition and coil. If I had to do it over again, I would probably just get everything from Cliford. All that I did do gained me about 50 or so HP, and it seems to pull much better on hills and off road. This is with a stock cam and all other internals.
So get ahold of Clifford, they have a website www.cliffordperformance.com and should be helpful.
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Clifford catalog now. When is a good time to reach them by phone? I'm in Ohio and I'm aware of the 3 hr or so time difference but whenever I call I just get the "automated runaround."
