Mid Oct girlfriends 00 Expy had someone turn in front of her smashing frt bumper, grill, headlite and rt frt fender. After battling insuance co got it fixed last week. No probs just sheet metal. Went to pick it up and it would'nt back up or turn. This is a large Ford dealer. Took it back next day they said vac line proably not hooked up won't hurt anything. Front end is all locked up. Took back 26th said don't know whats wrong. Won,t hurt anything. Took back today said jim module doesn't work $500 has close to 98K must have worn out. Funny it wore out in their shop. What is this and what could cause the frt to lock up? I don't buy it won't hurt anything. Now the check susp lite is on what could they have done to our vehicle. I think they screwed up something this worked perfect till it came out of their shop. Need some ammo to counter them not has almost 100K. Milage has dropped off 5MPG also and now vibrates. I know someone here knows what is happening. Please help if you can they messed up and want us to pay. Thanks, Phil
The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) is found on Ford vehicles and is basically a Body Control Computer. It controls many of the following functions on most Ford vehicles:
Warning chimes and warning lamps
One-touch down driver’s side window
Daytime Running Lamps
Heated rear window
Windshield washers and wipers
Battery saver
Remote keyless entry
Illuminated entry with remote keyless entry
Interior lighting
Perimeter anti-theft
Four-wheel drive
I got a wiring diagnostic check on this site that it said to check before replacing the GEM sensor. They didn't check just replaced and not the problem. Several body shops say its a wiring problem when they replaced fender. Saying it won't hurt anything drive it was wrong too. Tore out a shaft in transfer case and both hubs. Fine dealer now he says it happened cause 100K miles. Somehow they are going to have to admit their shop screwed up! And service Mgr should not have said it won't hurt anything. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks, indy6003
