How To? Books?
Is there a book(s) on installing differant size engines into Ford trucks?
Example: '87 F150 came stock with a FI 302. Its getting tired. Id like to install a larger (for towing) engine. Id like it to be at least 400cid or bigger and injected.
Is there a publication that walks me through the task?
Im looking for a publication walks me through the process of engine swapping, pointing out whats needed to install a differant engine, and knowing what engines will bolt up to my transmission? What engines will and wont work, what is required as far as wire harness mods, motor mounts, ect.
"Im looking for 'Specific Information' on swapping Ford motors into Ford trucks".
While there are some great publications addressing Ford's various families of motors and how to rebuild and modify them, http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Small-B.../dp/1557883238, I haven't seen one specifically targeting engine swaps. The information you want is right here when it comes to motor swaps, many including myself have done just what you propose, it's not too hard, and it was definitely worth it. Swapping a 5.8 into your truck or a 5.8 based stroker is pretty easy since these truck came with this motor, but the further you get from stock the more it's gonna cost you. In all cases starting with a donor vehicle to pull the motor or complete drivetrain from is the best and cheapest route, you'll have most everythng you need on hand. This is a pretty popular thing around here, it seems Ford left a lot of potential on the drawing board with this series of trucks and it's not too hard to coax a little or a lot more power from these engines. Start by telling us what your intended use will be for this project.
