leveling kit help...

leveling kit help...

Well im new to the forum and i need a little help. i have a '96 f150 2wd and im not really thrilled with the way it is angled downward at the nose. im pretty sure that i dont have torsion bars since i think they started putting them on in '97... is there an easy to install leveling kit that i could find that would lift up the front a couple of inches? im not a very good mechanic so im looking for the easiest solution... thanks

would coil springs in the front be the cheapest fix? are they easy to install?

The previous owner of my truck used big block springs to bring the front-end of my 2WD F150 up to level. The thing is he didn't do it right and the wear pattern is messed up. I'm going to be lowering my truck before I drive it again so I can't really give you the correct way to do it properly. Hope this helps a bit.

some people on here add f-350 springs to raise up abot two inches. it was done about two weeks ago, use the search button. i will try to find and post back....

ok, on the search feature, type in "new coil springs are in" the person is msb71 it looked good on his and it is not hard to do.......

thanks for the help... ive been reading about these twist-in coil spring boosters... are they difficult to install? from what ive read i think they will only give me 1" to 1.5"...

may work i have seen them but i would not trust to much, the coil springs are sure, there is one thing that might work, firestone makes a airbag that fits inside your coil spring. never used but seems like a good idea... you can search google under fire stone air bags......

Mike's a great guy and he should answer all the questions you've got...but in case you don't get a timely response here ya go.......

Jack up the truck as high as you can to get the two front tires more than enough off the ground then set her on Jackstands with her still in the air.....unbolt your shocks and the clip holding the top of the coil spring on.You may need to unbolt your caliper to get more flexibility.....oh yea pull the tires off......get a long extension to go down the interior of the coil spring...I think the bolt is a 15/16 but don't quote me on that.....pull the old spring out and put the new one in....bolt everything back up and let er down...

To answer your question...it is a relatively easy thing to do even if you're a noob...take your time and do it right...a 2 inch raise shouldn't affect your alignment any......The new springs are pretty cheap too.....if you go to the parts store you'll see what Ilike to call Knuckle busters....they're metal and they have a bolt on each side you tighten down to get more space in between the coils....they've also got rubber spacers...DO NOT USE THOSE CRAPPY THINGS........They are a waste of money and a safety hazard....you can order springs for one of the other trucks atillet listed for cheap.......Good Luck....

JR has the right idea, there are no alighment issues with the springs just a tiny camber issue \--/ , but they should settle in , my alignment shop wasn't worried about the camber. Good luck, it is a quick fix only 98$ dollars for the severe duty f-350 springs at Advance.

the only thing that worries me is the camber issue... will they level out in time or is there something else that i will need to do? also do you have the exact part number of those springs that you got? i assume that it needs to be for a f350 2wd since mine is a f150 2wd?

I got the CC844s they are the severe duty springs for an F-350, the camber went out but you can fix it with adjustable camber bushings.But only by a little.
My truck is a crew cab f-150 which is alot heavier than a reg cab , they do have taller springs for a f-150 on the list, I opted for the heavy duty springs , i tow a camper and the extra weight of the truck, they will last longer than F-150 springs, It definitly raised the truck up,check this thread out:
