hello all,i am getting ready to pull the tranny out of my 89 ranger 2.9 and all i need to know is to remove the exhaust or not as i have read mixed reviews on this and would like to know from someone who has already been there and actually did it.....it looks like it would have to be removed but it would be really nice if i didn't.....thanks in advance for the help.....dave..
This is going off my Ranger, which was a '94 4.0L, but the concept should be roughly the same.
Physically, no, the exhaust may remain in place, albeit barely. I did remove mine as it does give you much more wiggle room to remove the tranny. Removing the bolts that connect Y-pipe to manifolds are a cakewalk...removing the Y-pipe to cat bolts...not so much fun.
hello, well finally got to it today and went pretty smooth,i got it out and the new pressure plate and clutch lined up but thats far as i got today as it got dark but not bad for only 2 hours of work in it so far,i left the exhaust intact and the tranny pretty much just rolled right out, tommorow i will finish the job and let all know how it went.......
hello,i meant to be back yesterday but forgot,i got the tranny back in and all is good and only spent about an hour and a half getting it all back together,it seems as if i am driving a new truck as the old one was loud and vibrated alot,i didn't even have to bleed the system after i got it back together, and never had to undo any exhaust components, the only thing that seemed funny was after 2-4 gears the engine would rev up an extra 500 rpm or so before it would drop back down so i figured it to be the electrical connector at the speedo hookup and unpluged it and now is good as new,the old tranny had all the speedo parts missing and just used the rpm gauge to judge my speed, but its nice to use a actual speedo again,i guess that connector is in connection with some sort of speed control and injector timing or something, also when its connected the truck putters out at about 90 and when its unplugged i got it up to 117 gps indicated speed and still had some room but i didn't..lol......well its all good now and im out of here and back on the road..thanks for all the help..this forum is excellent....
