i have a 1980 f150, with a 300 and a 1 bbl carb,
the truck was sitting for a while, but now it runs
smooth with power to spare most of the time, but i
can't seem to get the gas\air mix right, and i've
tried and some times get good speed but poor acceleration, or excellent acceleration with no power once i get up to speed. any tips on how to tune the carburator?
I, always just set mine with a vacum gauge, you might wanna check for a loose carb or intake if it is changing on you if you not sure how to do it e-mail me at pbr12pak(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and i will let you know
pbr12pak: Why invite numerous e-mails? (like one more from me). Just post the explanation here and we can all learn. How do you tune a carb using a vacuum gauge?
You might change your fuel filter too. My 86 would run well up till about 2500 rpm then fall flat on it's face. Then sometimes it had a hard time pulling at all. With nearly 250,000mi I figured it was rebuild time. Somebody said it might be the filter and sure enough that fixed it.
This is only the second filter I put on it since new.
Raul: You can tune a carb. with a vacuum guage this way. Turn idle mix screw in until RPM drops off ( vacuum will also drop) then turn screw out until you get highest and steadiest vacuum reading and smoothest idle quality.
