oh ok so 80 and up IFs

i read on wikipedia that throguh about 86 they were axle tube version but were hinged and the center housing was bolted to the chassis and they could be either coil or leaf ?

so not CV joint shafts yet ?

whats a good labor cost for replacing balljoints on a 91 ?

on this style do you have to pull the knuckles off and press the balljoints with the knuckles removed, or no ?

im trying to figure out what these are exactly

thanks again!

Almost. The 87-96 F150 had the Twin Traction Beam(TTB) front suspension, there are a pair of hollow beams cris-crossing the front, the front diff is mounted on the drivers side beam, and there are old style drivehafts with U-joints out each side to the spindle.

No, CV joints and A-arm front suspension didn't come until the next F150 redesigned in '97.

You have to completely dismantle the hub assembly to reach the bare spindle, the ball joint body is pressed into the spindle, the shaft is pressed into the TTB arm. Figure on 2-4 hrs per side R&R with all the right tools on hand.. wheel bearing socket, 3/4 drive socket set and ratchet or impact gun, ball joint press, possibly torches.
