issue with IP or injectors?

Ok, so I have changed my IP with one that seems to work good. Injectors are about 200,000 milers and getting ordered tonight.

Driving highway 60mph after about 25 miles or so it slowly started pinging and got worse until about 50 miles in the trip I pulled over and retarded the timing. Pinging was gone. Snowmobiled all day, fired the truck up ran retarded smoke like a sob, was fine for about the same miles and slowly started pinging again and it was still retarded to the point that it doesn't run right when cold.

Next day I advanced the timing back to where it was before all this and ran it around town and no pinging.

So, does this sound like an injector? or the IP. I am thinking injector sticking maybe?

Flex ring in the governor is starting to go.

Your IP's time on you engine is getting short, very short.

You may also start to see black chunks in the IP return line elbow if the IP you are running is an early 80's model.

I just do not understand why the junk yard IP is supposed to run like a new one.... maybe JUST maybe that was why the truck was there in the first place.

Save your money and get a new "good quality rebuilt" and 99.9% of all the troubles will be gone as long as they are IP related.

Junk yard one wasn't supposed to run like a new one, but you never know. It was $8, not $400. It was worth a try. I am cheap, thats why I have this POS diesel in the first place.

BTW, Thanks Dave you have been a great help to me on this truck since I got it.
