i have an 80 f250 with a blown 302 i just found a 1990 302 with roller cam out of a mustang i know its a newer block and i was wondering if it will just bolt right up to my 3 speed any help would be appreciated. thanks
all 302's will enterchange. it will bolt up with no problom. the only thing
is if your 80 is carburatorated and the 90 is fuel injected you will need
to take the heads and intake off your 80 motor and put them on the
90 motor. they will fit.if you only change the intake it wont run right
you must change heads also..
yes everything will bolt up.if you are going to use your 80 dist.,i believe the bushing on the dist is different from one used in a roller motor. just change out the bushing.i also was under the impression from my friends with 302's that you could change to a carbed intake with no problem.
I don't know where changing the heads is coming from? They will work with a carbed engine. I put a 86 fuel injected 302 in my 1980 I used to have.
I swapped oil pans and pickup tubes, and I also swapped timing covers, since I wanted to use the original mechanical fuel pump. If you want to do this also, make sure you swap the eccentric on the front of the camshaft(it's very easy). The fuel injected engine has a one piece eccentric they are using as a washer, where the carbed eccentric is 2 piece and is designed for the fuel pump arm to rub against it. I also had to drill the dowel pin holes out to 1/2 inch. The later block used larger dowel pins. This is also a good time to check the timing chain.
If you don't want to change all that around, you can buy a electric fuel pump for a carb and wire it up instead of using a mechanical pump.
The gasket kit I got had two different style intake gaskets. The later style intake gaskets fit the older carbed intake to the later heads.
I used the stock duraspark II distributor. A local engine guy told me as long as I used the original Ford cam, I would not need a brass gear. I ran it for 8 years with no trouble, but some people swear you need to change the gear, so go ahead if you think you need to.
When I changed the timing cover, I used the older water pump and the v belt pulley system. You will have to make a decision what pulley system you will use, because the serpentine belt system uses a reverse rotation waterpump. Don't get that mixed up with a v belt system or it will turn backwards.
You will also need a new flywheel. The newer engine has a one piece rear main seal and the engine is 50oz out of balance while the older engine is 28oz out of balance.

thanks for the info im going to use my intake and my two barrel because it was fuel injection but the intake should work at least im confident the block will go.
i had one and the ports from the heads did not line up perfect with the intake ports
it would run, but ran rough. I was told to switch the heads, so I did and it
ran good.something to think about if it runs rough...

Thats weird, but come to think about it, I have had the wrong gaskets before. You would think if all the heads were the same the gaskets wouldn't change.
I just lucked out and happened to be rebuilding the engine when I was doing the swap. Like I said the rebuild gasket kit did come with two styles of intake gaskets, and one set definitely would not have worked, and the other set did.
I just did a little searching for engine gasket kits, and those kits that fit on up through the later years do not include the intake gaskets. The ones that do are year specific. It was a long time ago, but I thought I had to use the later style intake gasket with the older manifold. The intake I used was a 1968 4bbl cast iron intake, and I put it on the 86 engine.

so i got a little wiring problem. when i turn on the headlights all th gauges get messed up like it shows its overheating the oil pressure goes up and the dash lights dim. it also dimms the blower motor way down. im wondering if it could be a bad light switch or a fusible link or some monkey has had there hands under the dash and i got a lot wire chasing ahead of me. its probably someone taped into a dash wire and its shorting out i just thought id run it bye get some suggestions i appreciate any. thanks
so would a four speed tranny out of a 92 e-150 club wagon bolt up to an 86 e-150 with a straight six or is the straight six have a different bolt pattern. thanks
