Oh, sorry man. I thought you were talking about me.

No, not stock. I had 3.08's which is why I thought you were talking about me.

I'm out for a bit. Good night!

if you want a truck to work with get a 300 if you want a truck to hotrod and race around get a 302 in terms of reliabilty the 300 kicks the 302s butt that engine can take a hell of a beating unlike any other ford engine my grandpas has 309k miles on it you aint gonna convince me about that

well that is true im sure ther are plenty of 302s w over 300k but use common sense the 300 has less moving parts than a v8 which means less problemsand i dont even want to mention the 4.2s 4.6s 5.4s

well, IM n educated O, the inline 6 is neutrally balanced with less reciprocating parts and pistions that travel easier on the crank and rods as well as the block walls which is what they see such long life.

u can get a 302 to produce the same torque curve as the 300 and u can get the 300 to produce the same torque curve as a 302, its all in the head and cam selection. it is just that the 300 is better suited for work and lugging down low due to its flatter torque curve. get it on the 4 lane and it will be sluggish if not equipped with the right gears...same can be said with a bent 8. u can have a 460 truck engine be a total pig with the wrong gears.

I've had trucks with 302's and 351's, along with the 300. The 300 is no where near as fast as the V8's. The big 6 doesn't really get any better MPG vs the 302, when geared the same, and driven in the same manner.
The V8 engines will wind out a lot higher than the I6, as has been repeatedly mentioned. This has a lot to do with the head on the I6. It simply cannot flow enough air to make power above ~4000 RPM.
I still prefer the I6 over the V8's, primarily due to the simplicity of the 6. Changing a water pump or t-stat on the 6 takes very little time, as there is little to block access to the mounting bolts. The 302/351 has plenty of stuff in the way, so accessing these mounting bolts can be a far more difficult task.
Changing spark plugs is the same story. The I6 has almost nothing to hide the plugs, while the V8 has some of them well hid.
There are numerous other items that are similar in the way they can be accessed. Easy on the I6, and more difficult on the V8.
The I6 is not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it serves the purpose well for me. Others prefer the V8, and that's fine by me. Individuality is what make us all unique.
The 300 I6 is well known as one of the stoutest I6 engines ever produced, and is loved by many. It met it's demise at the same time as the 302/351 for the same basic reason. Ford moved to using OHC V8's, and the chassis/body of the '97 up F150 was redesigned in a manner that made the tall, long I6 no longer fit. Granted, the 351 and 460 survived another year or 2 as F250HD/F350 powerplants, but were dropped with the release of the SD model trucks.

Try this link for the full size chart of the 5.0.

I don't think I've ever seen a 5.0 of any type go over 200 rwhp without some bolt ons.

The chart I posted was the first dyno pull I ever did on my truck. It's got 3.08's and a 5 speed. At that time I only had the headers and exhaust on it; the injectors, MSD, and other stuff was added later and it didn't make any difference. As a general rule I keep my truck in excellent running condition at all times, so it would be safe to assume that the tune up parts were fairly new at the time of the pull. I think there were about 250k miles on it at the time and I drive it like I stole it. It would probably be fair to say that my engine is fairly abused, but it does get the oil changed and is otherwise very well maintained. I doubt that a 302 that was treated the same way my engine is would even still run at the mileage mine is at. The 302's that I've been around in the past didn't make it anywhere close before they were getting tired.

I really wish we could find a chart for a 302 in a truck. There are way too many differences between the 5.0 in a Mustang and the one in a truck to make a reasonable comparison based on the charts. Intake, roller cam, factory headers, different programming, etc. all contribute to a very different power curve.

I don't know about a 302 being way faster than a 300. I've been down the track next to a few, but it wasn't the exact same truck. The closest comparison was probably an X-Cab 5 spd truck with basic bolt ons, 3.73 gears, traction bars and slicks. I got him by 3 tenths and embarassed the hell out of him after he talked a bunch of crap to me in the staging lanes. I think that was the pass in my sig.

-nod- I haven't really raced anyone straight up, but I have messed with a few guys on the road. One guy pulled along side my truck. His was just like mine, only older. We nodded at each other and it was on. I couldn't pass him, but he never gained any distance either. Not sure if it mattered much at the time but I did have a 300lb or so berm in my bed. On the same note, I got my butt handed to me by a 4x4 Nissan with a super charged V6. I felt like an idiot.

My truck is fast enough for me. She'll hit 60 mph from a dead stop in no time flat. Obviously it's not something I brag about because it's nothing special, but for a six banger she doesn't do too bad. Even my six cyl hating dad gave it a word of praise. Our 300's may have only 145 Hp, but *for me* it's all the power I need. I would probably only end up getting in trouble with any more.. he he. Heavy right foot, ya know?

no, the vote is pointless.

u like the 300, i like the 300, others like the 300.
he likes the 302, they like the 302, others like the 302.
same for the 351, chevy, dodge, import, coke, pepsi, orange, green, purple, etc...its all personal preference. doesnt mean a dam thing besides one persons opinion.

the facts (for the most part) have been stated. let a person read and come to thier own conclusion based on thier needs.
