I'm looking for a in-dash dvd/cd reciever for my truck. I remember reading a review about one that plays movies when NOT parked. I've been lookin and I can't find it. Was wondering if anyone knows one. If so pls give me the website or something that's helpful. Thanks
If you're looking at the Pioneer units, avic411.com is a treasure chest full of great info (and hacks)....
I'm not sure of other manufacturers but the Pioneer navi units have figured out the parking brake trick and have implemented other deterrents to prevent this functionality. You can read more though at the above website.
Actually most if not all DVD headunits have a video lockout as it's against Federal Law to have video within eyeshot of the driver. All of Alpine's and other major brands units are locked out, unless you're in Park w/E-brake on of course. Best of luck.

Basically what that brake lock-out feature is looking for is a ground signal. So when the Parking brake is not activated (like when you are driving) it is sending a 12v signal to the radio and then when you engage the parking brake it shows the radio a ground and allows you to watch movies etc... So it isnt that hard to bypass on most models. Some require you to swap pins on the radio around, some require a sequence of ground, 12v, ground type actions, and some just allow a constant ground on certain wires.
But yes, it is very illegal. And not to mention very unsafe.
