Now I need to change over my 2002 Dana 60F lug bolt pattern to old style, pre-99' My question is can I just get a set of 8x6.5 hubs from a pre-99' dana 60, and maybe sell my 8x170mm hubs. OR to put it another way: does anyone know if you can swap hubs from a 2002 dana 60F to an older pre-99 dana 60f ?? I know I will need the brake rotors as well, but new ones are fairly cheap, it's the actual hub I'm worried about.
Obviously I have got a newer Dana 60 front axle for my project (2002) and I really do not want to have two different lug patterns on my truck. Where is the best place to find new hubs...or I guess I should say "old hubs", that is if they will interchange?
I also see a lot of chevy/dodge 8x6.5" hubs for the dana 60F, does anyone know if these will interchange with the Ford dana 60F? I know the bolt pattern is the same and the rims will interchange, but will the hub actually FIT on a Ford Dana 60f? Thanks again you guys!! I do appreciate your help.
i think it would be easier to just swap a metric pattern rear rear in than it will be to figure out what all is needed to convert a metric pattern to ase pattern.
One must remember that later style front axles use a "unit style" front bearing, so interchanging the hubs will require more than just the hub. There are a couple of ways to tackle this.
Probably the best way to do this would be to use a Dynatrac kit that eliminates the unit bearing, and simply install a set of hubs that will accomodate the standard pattern. These are available, and will alow you to keep your existing wheels.
Second option would be to machine the existing hub and re-locate the holes to accept new wheels studs. I have seen this done, but do not particularly think I would take this option. By re-drilling new holes, this leaves very little material on the hub flange, and could possible crack. Not a place you want a failure, but could be an option.
Gettinf rid of the problematic unit bearings and new hubs would be the best thing to do. Make sure you are sitting down when you click on dynatrac prices. Little bit spendy, but worth every penny if you are dealing with a late model front axle.
