Hello everyone,
I am looking for ways to remove my f250 style side bed without damaging it and then installing. I want to take care of the surface rust and then paint it. I will also take care of the frame and extra stuff while the bed is off. My questions are this.
How can one man remove the bed and put on a rotisserie. I assume using a engine hoist. Any advice from people who have done this would be great.
Get yourself a set of good and strong horses to set it on do NOT set it on the lower fenders at all. I used my skidsteer with a boom pole to move mine and it is NOT a one man job at all It can be done but I would never recommend it the engine hoist will work if your boom is long enough without falling over on it's nose
Considering the amount of cancer on our truck bed, and the bed itself won't be re-used. We're planning on using a couple of farm jacks to lift it, and drive the truck out from under it. Then set the entire thing on 4 saw horses while we tear into it. Yeah it's going to be tricky, and need a lot of planning before hand.
If your on a farm you must have a FEL/front end loader, use 4 chains and lift it off and make sure you have the reach for a level lift. I tied mine to the hooks inside the bed with 1/2 " nylon rope
LOL, not on a farm by any means here. My step father uses farm jacks for his own truck. It's not something to do without A LOT of careful planning and forethought.
I'm not sure what a farm jack is? Is that about 4 feet tall and the 4 wheelers use them lots?
Try 4 - 55 gallon drums with a couple of 4x4 poles spanning the width of the bed and make sure you clear tires when you drive truck out from under them and disconnect gas tank wires and all lites and fuel filler
Take your time and double check and you'll be fine
An 8 foot bed weighs around 400 to 600 pounds, give or take
Farm Jack is basically a very large oversized ratchet style jack. Sorta like the ones used on older cars like a bumper jack. Only a heck of a lot larger. Base is oversized on the ones he has (talking about a 1' square) And the ratchet shaft is about 5' tall. It's made to lift several thousand pounds.
Got ya both, thanks, I don't understand where he will hook it to? Another way would be to chain, strap, clamp 2 long 4X4"s to top edge of bed going left and right to be supported on 4 barrels blocks or what ever? It is heavy and the lower part of bed will not support the bed. If you look at my post here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...y-f-550-a.html
You will see how I did it with 2 people and a great machine
becareful
Not really sure? He picked up a bunch, and these things have some amazing lifting power.
As I've stated, it's going to take a lot of prep work and careful thought And there is a very high possiblity that the bed itself will crumble and give out.
Heck, maybe I'll just cut the sides and front off first? The rest will probably fall apart once we clean the bird droppings off LOL.
